If we went on a growing spree we could produce enough fruit and veg in our gardens to feed the whole country.

FACT: There are approximately 2,000 square miles (approximately half a million hectares) of household gardens in the UK. If half of these were used to grow fruit and vegetables it would produce 7.5 million tonnes of crops per year which is more than the 6.9 million tonnes UK households eat in a year.
